Launching a website is the start, not the finish. A little care each month keeps it fast, secure and bringing in enquiries.
Most of this checklist takes less than an hour, and you don’t need to be technical for most of it.
Every month
1. Test your contact form
Send yourself a test message. Broken forms are one of the most common problems I find, and owners often don’t notice for weeks.
2. Check your contact details
Phone number, email, address and business hours. Make sure they match your Google Business Profile exactly.
3. Click through your main pages
Look at your site on a phone and on a computer. Anything broken, out of date or slow to load?
4. Review Google Search Console
Search Console is free and shows how your pages appear in Google. Check for errors, pages that dropped out, and the search terms people use to find you.
5. Look at your analytics
Which pages get the most visits? Where do people leave? Are form submissions or calls going up or down?
For WordPress sites
- Update WordPress, your theme and plugins after taking a backup.
- Remove plugins you no longer use.
- Confirm your backups are running and that you can restore one.
Webflow and Framer handle these updates for you, which is one reason some clients choose them. More on that in Webflow vs Framer vs WordPress.
Every three months
- Update your photos with recent work.
- Add new reviews or project examples.
- Refresh any service or pricing details.
- Run your homepage through Google PageSpeed Insights.
- Check that your security certificate (the padlock) is valid.
Every year
- Renew your domain and hosting, ideally on auto-renew.
- Review every page for outdated information.
- Ask whether the site still matches your business goals. If it doesn’t, read 9 signs your website needs a redesign.
